Lake Okeechobee, world class bass fishing:

Lake Okeechobee is located in south-central Florida. It is 750 square miles of bass fishing heaven and the second largest freshwater lake in the Untied States. The average depth of the lake is around 3 feet, with maybe 12 feet in the center of the lake. It is shaped like a huge saucer and surrounded with vegetation. This provides a great bass factory each year with millions of bass making their way to the grass beds to spawn.

Being on the water and watching a Florida sunrise over lake Okeechobee will leave memories for a lifetime.

The Bass Fishing:

Fishing for the Florida strain largemouth is one of the most exciting sport fishing there is. The shallow grass beds present a challenge to anglers at first, but then they find guides such as Bill Nemec can get you into action that is unbelievable in a short time. Navigation can be frustrating in shallow water times unless you know the trails and bottom compositions.

Soft plastic lures, spinnerbait, and of course topwater lures are great choices. Most areas will require heavier line (17-20lb test) as the hard fighting lunkers have to be wrestled out of heavy cover sometimes. When fishing soft plastic lures, such as a Yamamoto Senko, the trick is to SLOW DOWN.

Most of the fishing will occur in 2-4 feet of water on this natural lake.

Okeechobee Wildlife:

There are tremendous amounts of wildlife in the lake. Alligators, wading birds, raccoons, otters, manatees, and even a few deer, live and thrive here. Each fall the duck hunting is marvelous on the lake.
